Good governance is not a collection of Board templates. It is the system through which directors understand purpose, risk, obligations, performance and the quality of services being delivered. For human services charities and not-for-profits, Boards also need meaningful assurance over safeguarding, workforce, quality, incidents, complaints and regulatory compliance, not only financial and strategic performance.
The Planning and Practice Hub supports Australian charities and not-for-profit organisations to create governance arrangements that are proportionate, decision-focused and connected to operational reality. Support includes Board and governance effectiveness reviews, governance frameworks, charters and delegations, Board and committee annual calendars, risk appetite, risk reporting and assurance frameworks, strategic planning and implementation governance, director induction and governance resources, quality, safeguarding and compliance reporting, and Board papers, dashboards and decision frameworks.
The work helps Boards clarify roles, decision rights, delegations, risk oversight, strategy, committee structures, reporting and assurance so governance supports organisational purpose and accountability. Governance documents are reviewed as a connected system so charters, delegations, reserved matters, policies, risk and reporting arrangements align rather than conflict. Where ACNC and other regulatory obligations apply, governance arrangements are connected to the evidence that demonstrates systems are working, helping directors discharge duties with confidence and giving executives clearer pathways for assurance.
